We see increasingly disruptive shifts in social attitudes, new business models, and technologies across the entire transportation landscape. The wide world of transportation needs a new genre of brilliant designers to navigate the transformation. Master's candidates in ArtCenter's Graduate Transportation and Systems Design program explore, define, design and validate novel ideas for macro- and micro-systems of emerging transportation challenges.

Uber+sponsored+a+project+with+ArtCenter+to+design+the+end+to+end+journey+for+an+E-VTOL+service.+This+involved+infrastructural+understanding+of+where+these+vehicles+will+land+and+take+off%2C+design+of+the+vehicle+and+all+supporting+infrastructure+and+every+touch+point+a+customer+could+come+in+contact+with.

The+Auton-o-rama+re-envisions+the+trade+show+as+a+play+space+for+consumers+and+autonomous+vehicles%2C+curating+a+series+of+experiences+that+lead+from+excitement+to+recognition+to+trust+in+the+cars%E2%80%99+abilities+through+a+mutual+journey+and+test+ride+and+finishing+with+the+user+crossing+the+street+in+front+of+the+autonomous+vehicle+to+demonstrate+their+trust+in+it.+

eMOTION+is+a+mobility+store+designed+to+merge+the+community+of+your+local+skate+shop+and+skatepark+with+a+retail+space+for+futuristic+electric+mobility+devices+by+providing+a+test+course+to+cross-compare+electric+mobility+devices+to+their+analog+cousins%2C+within+an+environment+designed+to+be+as+welcoming+and+authentic+as+your+local+skate+shop.

With+curb-less+streets%2C+the+Living+City+enables+transformative+environments+to+empower+all+to+travel+independently+and+frictionlessly.+Inspired+by+Hans+Modermann%E2%80%99s+Shared+Spaces%2C+the+Living+City+returns+fifty-percent+of+today%E2%80%99s+streets+back+to+pedestrians+by+moving+high-speed+mobility+below+ground+and+by+opening+up+city+spaces+for+pedestrians+to+share+with+low-speed+transit%2C+dynamic+spaces%2C+events+and+programming.

The+Hub+is+a+transportation+access+point+for+the+dense+West+Hollywood+area.+With+autonomy+and+rideshare+becoming+a+primary+choice+for+mobility%2C+Hubs+provide+continuous+drop+off+and+pick+up+zones+while+enabling+more+community+focused+spaces+through+multi-floored+concentric+helical+ramps.

Parkway+reanimates+street+spaces+to+accommodate+pedestrian+traffic+and+autonomous+vehicle+traffic+using+green+spaces+and+grade+separations+for+different+levels+of+mobility.+

ModLiv+is+a+modular+home+on+wheels+designed+for+a+lifestyle+driven+by+flexibility+and+low+cost.+The+system+comprises+multiple+units+for+different+life+stages+and+uses%2C+and+proposes+to+overcome+NIMBYism+by+starting+with+corporate+campuses+and+employee+housing%2C+moving+to+institutions+like+colleges+and+hospitals%2C+and+then+personal+housing+needs.+

People+are+shifting+towards+shared+living+spaces+and+shared+office+spaces+but+still+miss+the+their+personal+space%2C+a+place+of+quiet+solitude.+Hubble+offers+on-demand+transportation+with+personal+space+and+private+zones%2C+as+well+as+integrated+personal+mobility+vehicles.+Hub.ble+would+have+private+seats+with+space+dividers%2C+open+space+for+interaction%2C+private+meeting+zones+and+space+to+stand+for+shorter+commute+each+of+which+can+be+pre-booked.

eMotive+is+an+interaction+system+for+self-driving+cars.+Studies+show+that+users+do+not+trust+these+vehicles+yet%2C+in+part+because+they+don%E2%80%99t+understand+if+the+car+shares+their+goals.+A+card-sorting+exercise+asked+people+to+sort+what+information+they+would+want+a+car+to+communicate%2C+while+a+full-scale+prototype+invited+them+to+place+designed+graphics+where+they+wanted+the+information+to+be%2C+and+was+developed+into+a+final+design+proposal.+

Plans+for+increasing+affordable+housing+in+LA+necessarily+increase+density%E2%80%94these+new+blocks+will+need+to+handle+a+lot+of+demands.+The+system+proposes+mixed+use+streets%2C+dedicated+pathways+that+allow+for+all+forms+of+mobility+for+a+growing%2C+mixed-income+population.

When+asked+to+rank+features+in+a+self-driving+car%2C+US+millennials+ranked+the+ability+of+the+vehicle+to+actually+drive+itself+second-to-last.+Cliff+is+an+adventure+companion+with+a+frame+that+provides+a+panoramic+view+of+the+environment+and+a+seat+that+transforms+from+two-passengers+to+a+center-seat+to+engage+the+user+with+their+surroundings.

Autonomous+cars+become+intelligent+companions+in+an+automotive+experience+design+thesis+project+%E2%80%93+a+project+that+argues+that+a+viable+autonomous+future+must+be+human-involved+and+human-centric+%E2%80%93+through+the+evolution+of+the+driver%E2%80%99s+experience+for+potential+autonomous+futures.needs.+

The+Mobius+is+an+autonomous+vehicle+which+is+suited+to+the+physical+architecture+of+the+city+of+the+future%2C+but+also+to+the+psychological+needs+presented+by+living+in+such+a+place.+This+experience+is+delivered+through+a+vehicle+layout+and+footprint+which+is+compact+and+nimble+enough+to+move+through+the+city+effectively%2C+while+working+to+help+passengers+both+explore+their+city+more+meaningfully%2C+and+to+shut+out+aspects+of+the+city+which+are+the+most+stressful.+

The+city+of+Inglewood+sponsored+a+project+with+ArtCenter+for+planning+a+mobility+system+to+get+stadium+goers+to+the+upcoming+Rams+stadium.+An+ethnography+of+the+community+lead+to+insights+into+their+needs+as+a+community+going+through+rapid+change.+This+gave+context+to+system+architecture+that+used+light+electric+pedi+bikes+for+non+peak+usage+and+a+BRT+system+for+when+an+event+is+occurring.

The+Moon+Scooter%2C+developed+into+the+Stator+scooter+project%2C+is+designed+to+be+completely+customizable%2C+stripped+down+and+outfitted+by+the+user+or+used+as-is.+Designed+for+the+realities+of+LA+%28long+distances%2C+remote+campuses%29+and+the+changing+demographics+of+young+drivers%2C+it+is+inspired+by+the+city+it+was+designed+in.
