Prior to faculty Joel Delman’s 27 years as a design consultant, he was a corporate lawyer. He has drafted and negotiated hundreds of NDAs, Service Agreements and Licensing/Royalty deals with clients ranging from Fortune 100s to tech startups. He knows the pitfalls and gotchas to watch out for, and the best practices to push for.
Joel will share his expertise on contract issues and how to avoid making potentially costly—mistakes that our alumni may make in their legal relationships with clients daily. This workshop will help to ensure that participants understand what's at stake, and learn how to negotiate smart agreements going forward.
Joel’s knowledge is focused on industrial design protection; however, all alums would find the workshop helpful.

Joel Delman is not a practicing lawyer. ArtCenter is not a law firm. This workshop is only offering business advice, not legal advice. Consult a qualified attorney for any and all legal guidance. You do not need an attorney to negotiate contracts, but it may be a good idea to use one. Suggested contractual language is merely that - a suggestion. It may have worked for Joel, but that doesn’t create any guarantees or assurances that it will work for you, or any right to sue Joel or ArtCenter College of Design. Use advice from this workshop at your own risk.
