“I believe that one’s kindness and dedication will inspire others to do the same.” —Joshua You
Compassionate and considerate, Fall 2023 Student Leadership Award winner and graduating Illustration student Joshua (Jisok) You supported other students by highlighting their successes and connecting them with their peers.
As a sixth grader, You and his siblings were sent by his parents to the United States, from South Korea, for more opportunities, while his parents remained behind.
“I came here barely capable of speaking English, and being the quietest kid in class,” You says. “It’s a humbling milestone to be recognized as a leader as I near the end of my education.”
As an ArtCenter Student Government Illustration department representative, Orientation leader, teaching assistant and peer coach, You organized diverse events and panels, and created digital and social media content.
He was also the recipient of multiple scholarships, including the Bruce Heavin and Lynda Weinman Endowed Scholarship and Jerry Johnson Endowed Scholarship.
“I’m committed to giving back to the world the valuable lessons I've learned,” says You, a story artist and filmmaker. “I tried to lead by example.”
