Fine Art alum Green Yoon’s sprawling physical sculptures—created mainly out of bamboo skewers and tree branches—and his futuristic digital sculptures form a creative pathway imbued with mystery and the pursuit of utopia.
The artist (BFA 20) draws inspiration from negative emotions he had while growing up isolated in the mountains, first in Missouri, then in South Korea.
“My work is a process of trying to overcome childhood fears—of being alone, not seeing people, not feeling special at all,” he says. “At the same time, I don’t think fear is an emotion you can overcome.”
The Spring 2024 print issue of ArtCenter On magazine—with its theme of Pathways—features an eyeball-like digital sculpture by Yoon and showcases the journey of one of his physical sculptures.
It is a merging of two worlds: virtual and material.
