In the ACX Kids class Drawing the Clothed Figure, taught by artist and ArtCenter alum Ruzanna Hanesyan (BFA 21 Fine Art), students learn about form, proportion, shape, composition, the human skeleton, and simplification.
To inspire their drawings, students explore how notable artists—past and present—have depicted the human figure.
“I employ a story-based approach that emphasizes close observation of live figures and understanding their proportions,” says Hanesyan.
In the class, she encourages students to compare shapes and lines to develop their observational skills. She also introduces art vocabulary.
Students discuss feelings, ideas, methods and techniques used in drawing figures—all skills that professional artists acquire, Hanesyan adds. They work with various tools and materials.
Drawing the Clothed Figure class is a fun and creative outlet for children, says Hanesyan, and allows them to use their imaginations while honing their artistic skills.
“It is important for me to convey the enriching experience, lasting friendships and inspiration I gained as a student at ArtCenter, fostering a similar passion for art in my students,” she says.
