ArtCenter Students Sweep Top Honors at Core77 Design Awards 2023

Designs created by 30 students recognized as outstanding for sustainability, gaming, furniture, branding, packaging, toys and more


Projects earned a total of 23 accolades

Cheers filled the hallways on campus as news spread about ArtCenter College of Design students being recognized with a sweep of honors by the prestigious Core77 Design Awards 2023. Prizes were bestowed on a total of 30 students and recent alumni for individual or team projects across all academic departments at the College. The ArtCenter community earned a total of 23 honors at this year’s awards ceremony. Winners, runner ups and notable mentions were awarded in 14 diverse categories such as branding, built environments, emerging technologies, furniture and lighting, gaming, home and living, interaction, lifestyle, packaging, sustainability, tools, toys and play, and visual communication.

“We’re very proud of this recognition from such a widely respected global organization as Core77,” said Anne Burdick, acting provost of ArtCenter College of Design. “These impressive awards convey to the world that our talented students continue to stand out as leaders in the field delivering game changing design ideas with the potential to make a significant impact on society.”

Substrate Fantasia is a speculative fabulation of a substrate-centered world called Substratocene in 2180, a transitional era between current Anthropocene towards an ecological utopia.
Substrate Fantasia is a speculative fabulation of a substrate-centered world called Substratocene in 2180, a transitional era between current Anthropocene towards an ecological utopia. The shared goal in Substratocene is to redefine material as substrate for fungi to live on, increase biodiversity and co-evolve with fungi.
"The window" proposes an alternative visual experience to confront the immersive effects of virtual reality, bridging the separated physical and digital world and constructing transitions to avoid being lost in the mediated vision.
