COVID-19 Student Bulletin: Academic Questions
Dear Students,
We are aware that you may be asking questions right now that have to do with your continued academic success, and we hope this message provides some additional clarity on many points.
- Classes were suspended for the time period March 12-22, and the Spring 2020 semester has been extended to Friday, May 1.
- During the period of suspended classes (March 12-22), no student is expected to turn in homework, complete class projects, or attend to any schoolwork (unless doing so helps you remain focused and healthy). Your faculty will be adjusting all deadlines and due dates to accommodate the new end date of the spring semester. Students may also communicate with faculty between March 12 and March 22, but expect some delay in response as faculty work to resume classes on March 23.
- If you have already made plans to leave ArtCenter after the previously scheduled last day of classes of the Spring 2020 semester (April 24), please communicate directly with your instructors to coordinate how you will complete the course requirements and receive a final grade.
- Limited access to all campus resources will resume when College operations reopen on March 23. We are evaluating safe access to shops, labs, library materials, workspaces, equipment, etc. after March 23, and we will inform the campus as soon as possible. As we move forward, the College will continue to follow all federal and local guidance for school operations.
- Faculty members will communicate directly with their students to explain how classes will resume after March 23. Any remote teaching will be accessed through DotEd and may involve additional technology that is linked through DotEd (such as Zoom, a videoconferencing software).
- Students who have received reasonable classroom accommodations due to documented disabilities, will continue to receive such support. Students with questions about their accommodations are advised to communicate directly (one-on-one) with their instructors, and if necessary, to contact the Center for the Student Experience for additional explanations.
- There are no changes to the schedule of Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 or any other future semester at ArtCenter, at this time.
- Enrollment Services will announce any and all changes to the registration process for future semesters. Additionally, your academic department may have asked you to complete a brief online survey of your intent to enroll in Summer 2020 classes. The survey is not an official record of your intent to enroll or take a term off. It is simply an administrative exercise to better plan the numbers of courses and course sections that will be available.
Please continue to communicate any questions or concerns about your classes directly with your instructors. We look forward to resuming classes on March 23 and until then, we hope you rest, take care of yourselves, and stay alert to all of the rapidly changing public health news.
Please let us know if you have other academic concerns that need to be addressed.
Thank you,
The Center for the Student Experience
