ArtCenter College of Design Hosts Creative Tech 2024, offering a doorway into emerging technology and creative practice

ArtCenter College of Design is pleased to announce Creative Tech 2024. This year's focus is on the transformative role of artificial intelligence, sustainable design challenges and the new approaches to entrepreneurship. The events are open to the public. Reservations required.

Building on the past three years of programming, this year's sessions include two panels. The first panel, in collaboration with Innovate Pasadena's Connect Week 2024, features change-makers in the AI industry. Sanford Williams of the FCC, inventor and ArtCenter Trustee Bill Gross, and entrepreneur Todd Terrazas will discuss AI and digital infrastructure policies, moderated by Maggie Hendrie, Dean of the Media and Technology Division at the College.

“As we navigate the impact of AI across various forms of art, media, and design practices, we present Artificial Intelligence primarily as technology. I like to explore AI as Augmented Human Intelligence, which means asking what creatives want from AI and how they can influence tech development.” said Maggie. “This approach centers on outcomes and human impact rather than merely pursuing more sophisticated machines.”

The second panel features Vicki von Holzhausen, founder of the vegan leather alternative brand von Holzhausen, and Design x Space Exploration pioneer Jessie Kawata. ArtCenter alumni Vicki and Jessie will join ArtCenter President Karen Hofmann and share their expertise in purpose-driven creative technology.

The dynamic three-day program also includes two Careers in Creative Tech sessions for ArtCenter students. This new addition to the program will give students the opportunity to hear from and interact with professionals who have fearlessly built new possibilities and prioritized sustainability throughout their work. These presentations offer a behind-the-scenes view into how one can thoughtfully design their creative careers. Students also get to learn how to channel what they have learned to make a meaningful difference in the world.

In line with ArtCenter's mission to empower creatives as informed and impactful contributors, this curated lineup of change-makers is not only creating new pathways and trajectories within their fields but persistently working to build brighter futures.
