Mark+Arbeit+transferred+from+the+University+of+Hawaii+to+ArtCenter+to+study+photography.+During+his+third+year+of+studies%2C+he+met+photographer+Helmut+Newton%E2%80%94an+event+that+changed+his+life.+Following+college%2C+Arbeit+worked+as+a+photographic+retoucher+for+Irving+Penn+in+New+York+before+moving+to+Milan%2C+where+he+began+shooting+for+%22Linea+Italia%2C%22+%22Donna%22+and+%22Vogue+Bellezza.%22+In+1985%2C+he+settled+in+Paris+and+formed+an+experimental+photography+group+with+fellow+ArtCenter+friends+called+The+Cauldron.+During+this+time+he+created+his+%E2%80%9CIn+%26+Out-of-Focus%E2%80%9D+series+%281986%29%3B+split+time+between+Paris+and+New+York+while+shooting+for+%22French+Vogue%2C%22+%22Marie+Claire%2C%22+%22In+Style%2C%22+%22People%22+and+%22Forbes%3B%22+and+launched+his+%E2%80%9CArtist+Atelier%E2%80%9D+series+%281992%29.+In+2004%2C+Arbeit+married+and+moved+to+Honolulu%2C+where+he+continued+his+editorial+work+and+created+his+%E2%80%9CTorso%E2%80%9D+%282010%29+and+%E2%80%9CPhotograms%E2%80%9D+%282012%29+series%2C+before+moving+his+family+to+Florida+in+2015.

Andrew+D.+Bernstein%E2%80%99s+photography+has+graced+thousands+of+newspapers%2C+magazine+covers+and+major+advertising+campaigns+for+more+than+three+decades.+He+has+worked+with+the+world%E2%80%99s+top+athletes+on+projects+for+Nike%2C+Reebok%2C+Adidas%2C+Pepsi%2C+Coca-Cola%2C+Icy+Hot+and+GlaxoSmithKline.+His+unique+rapport+with+athletes+allows+him+exclusive+access+to+behind-the-scenes+moments%2C+some+of+which+were+showcased+in+the+book+he+co-authored+with+legendary+NBA+coach+Phil+Jackson%2C+%22Journey+to+the+Ring.%22+Andrew+D.+Bernstein+Associates+Photography+has+served+as+team+photographer+for+the+L.A.+Lakers%2C+L.A.+Kings%2C+L.A.+Clippers+and+L.A.+Dodgers.+His+unique+style+has+led+to+commissioned+exhibitions+throughout+the+country%2C+including+the+Naismith+Memorial+Basketball+Hall+of+Fame%2C+where+he+is+among+only+four+photographers+whose+work+was+selected+for+permanent+exhibition.+Bernstein+was+inducted+into+the+National+Jewish+Sports+Hall+of+Fame+in+2013+and+the+Southern+California+Jewish+Sports+Hall+of+Fame+in+2001.

Andrew Bernstein

Born+in+London+and+raised+in+England+and+Italy%2C+still+life+and+motion+photographer+Bartholomew+Cooke+graduated+from+ArtCenter+College+of+Design+in+2007.+While+there%2C+he+developed+his+commercial+aesthetic%2C+a+combination+of+digital+capture%2C+collage%2C+and+computer+rendering.+Known+for+his+vivid+conceptual+manipulations+of+inanimate+objects+and+sense+of+humor%2C+Cooke+has+worked+with+a+wide+range+of+editorial+and+commercial+clients%2C+among+them+Samsung%2C+Google%2C+Nike%2C+Gatorade%2C+Barney%E2%80%99s%2C+Avon%2C+Smashbox+Cosmetics%2C+%22The+New+Yorker%2C%22+%22Dwell%22+and+%22GQ.%22+His+images+have+appeared+on+numerous+magazine+covers%2C+from+%22Time%22+and+%22Wired%22+to+%22The+Atlantic%22+and+%22Variety.%22+Bartholomew+lives+in+the+Echo+Park+neighborhood+of+Los+Angeles%2C+and+has+a+studio+and+workshop+in+nearby+Highland+Park.

Matthew Rolston

James Wojcik

Influenced+by+Dadaist+and+Surrealist+theory%2C+Japanese+photographer+Hiroshi+Sugimoto+crafts+mysterious+scenes+from+vernacular+subject+matter%2C+while+melding+contemplative+elements+from+the+East+with+cultural+motifs+from+the+West.+His+ongoing+subjects+include+dioramas%2C+theaters%2C+Buddhist+sculptures+and+seascapes.+A+supreme+craftsman%2C+Hiroshi+Sugimoto+uses+a+19th-century-style%2C+large-format+camera%2C+to+create+his+exquisite+black-and-white+photography%2C+giving+insight+into+how+the+medium+can+both+obscure+and+alter+reality.+In+2001%2C+Sugimoto+received+the+Hasselblad+Foundation+International+Award+in+Photography%2C+and+was+the+subject+of+a+mid-career+retrospective+in+2006+organized+by+the+Hirshhorn+Museum+in+Washington%2C+D.C.+and+the+Mori+Art+Museum+in+Tokyo.+His+work+is+held+in+the+collections+of+the+Tate+Gallery%2C+the+Museum+of+Contemporary+Art%2C+Chicago+and+the+Metropolitan+Museum+of+New+York%2C+among+many+others.

Hiroshi Sugimoto

Sid+Avery+originally+made+his+mark+as+a+professional+photographer%2C+transforming+how+Hollywood+celebrities+were+shot+by+capturing+the+private+moments+of+such+stars+as+Elizabeth+Taylor%2C+James+Dean+and+Audrey+Hepburn.+Despite+his+success+as+a+photographer+and+a+television+commercial+director+%28through+Avery+Film+Group%29%2C+his+contributions+after+%E2%80%9Cretirement%E2%80%9D+may+be+the+most+enduring.+Recognizing+that+the+works+of+many+top+Hollywood+photographers+were+being+lost%2C+Avery+founded+the+Hollywood+Photographer%E2%80%99s+Archive.+This+nonprofit+organization%2C+dedicated+to+the+preservation+of+historic+prints+and+negatives%2C+eventually+became+the+Motion+Picture+and+Television+Photo+Archive+%28MPTV%29%2C+a+profitable+stock+agency+for+photographers+past+and+present.+Today+MPTV+maintains+a+collection+of+over+one+million+classic+images%2C+available+to+artists%2C+designers%2C+collectors+and+historians.+During+his+lifetime%2C+Avery+also+donated+over+%248+million+worth+of+historical+material+to+museums%2C+universities+and+the+Academy+of+Motion+Picture+Arts+and+Sciences.

Sid Avery

Born+in+1989%2C+Zhe+Chen+is+a+photo-based+artist+born+and+raised+in+Beijing.+She+received+her+BFA+in+Photography+and+Imaging+from+ArtCenter+in+2011.+Chen+is+the+recipient+of+the+Three+Shadows+Award+%282011%29%2C+the+Inge+Morath+Award+from+the+Magnum+Foundation+%282011%29+and+the+Xitek+New+Talent+Award+%282015%29.+Her+work+is+included+in+public+and+private+collections+and+has+exhibited+internationally.+Chen%E2%80%99s+work+is+often+restored+as+an+ongoing+process+of+exploration%2C+discovery+and+research.+In+her+early+work+where+the+physical+self-destruction+of+her+subjects+is+identified+as+an+act+of+spiritual+cleansing%2C+Chen+sought+%E2%80%9Canother+way+of+telling%E2%80%9D+by+expanding+her+photographic+observations+with+a+collection+of+journals+and+letters.+In+her+latest+work+%22Towards+Evening%3A+Six+Chapters%2C%22+Chen+uses+dusk+as+the+main+theme+to+continue+her+quest+of+the+visible+and+speakable%2C+creating+a+transforming+and+impelling+force+between+reading+and+viewing.

Zhe Chen

Sally+Andersen-Bruce%E2%80%99s+photographs+have+appeared+in+magazines%2C+books+and+on+packaging%3B+among+her+clients+are+corporations+and+museums.+She+has+photographed+executives+around+the+world%2C+and+managed+the+Samsung+IDS+photo+studio+in+Seoul%2C+South+Korea%2C+for+three+years%2C+documenting+global+design+workshops+while+living+there.+One+of+the+greatest+honors+of+her+career+is+working+with+the+U.S.+Postal+Service+on+stamp+projects.+With+press+runs+in+the+billions%2C+more+than+60+of+her+photos+of+animals%2C+antique+toys+and+more+have+appeared+on+USPS+stamps.+She+volunteers+her+photography+for+local+animal+shelters%2C+and+her+%22Animal+Rescue%3A+Adopt+A+Shelter+Pet%22+stamps+are+one+of+the+most+popular+in+the+history+of+the+Postal+Service%2C+second+only+to+Elvis+stamps.+Her+photographs+also+appeared+on+the+2016+%22Jack-O%27-Lanterns%22+stamps+and+the+2016+%22Diwali%22+holiday+stamp%2C+a+commemoration+of+the+Hindu+festival+of+lights.

A+pioneer+of+digital+collage%2C+Russ+Widstrand+has+achieved+international+recognition+as+an+artist+and+visionary.+Soon+after+he+opened+his+first+photography+studio+in+Los+Angeles%2C+he+was+sought+by+global+design+agencies+and+Fortune+100+companies+such+as+IBM%2C+Hewlett-Packard%2C+Visa%2C+J.P.+Morgan+and+ARCO.+Through+his+alternative+photographic+techniques+and+conceptual+collaboration+with+clients%2C+he+carved+a+new+niche.+His+accolades+include+awards+from+Communication+Arts%2C+AIGA%2C+Nikon%2C+Print%2C+the+Mead+Show%2C+the+Art+Directors+Club+of+New+York+and+Los+Angeles%2C+and+the+Society+of+Publication+Designers.+In+early+2000%2C+his+photography+took+a+more+emotional+and+introspective+direction+with+the+Pear+Series%E2%80%94conceptually+gestated+over+long+periods+and+shot+quickly+on+Polaroid+film%E2%80%94which+gave+new+voice+to+Widstrand%E2%80%99s+work.+He+continues+to+pursue+his+conceptual+approach+to+photography+for+galleries%2C+designers+and+personal+projects.

Chris+Callis+is+a+New+York-based+photographer+whose+client+list+includes+Hewlett-Packard%2C+IBM%2C+BMW%2C+Smirnoff%2C+Honda%2C+Kodak+and+Polaroid.+A+U.S.+Army+Vietnam+veteran%2C+Callis+first+attended+ArtCenter+in+the+early+1970s.+His+early+work+was+shown+in+such+publications+as+%22National+Lampoon%2C%22+%22Viva%22+and+%22The+New+Yorker%2C%22+and+he+has+photographed+numerous+album+covers+for+Atlantic+Records%2C+Motown%2C+A%26M%2C+Elektra+and+more.+His+recent+work+has+been+published+in+%22Vogue%2C%22+%22The+New+Yorker%2C%22+%22Glamour%22+and+%22Esquire.%22+Callis+has+served+as+president+of+the+Advertising+Photographers+of+America+in+New+York%2C+of+which+he+was+an+original+member%2C+and+for+20+years%2C+he+taught+lighting+in+the+School+of+Visual+Arts%E2%80%99+Photography%2C+Video+and+Related+Media+department+in+the+MFA+program.+For+the+last+decade%2C+Callis+has+volunteered+at+The+Doe+Fund%2C+a+nonprofit+organization+benefiting+the+homeless%2C+and+has+produced+a+library+of+photographs+that+the+organization+uses+extensively.
