Biography

Scarlet Cheng is an arts writer and educator specializing in film history and the visual arts. Currently, she is a columnist for Artillery art magazine and a regular contributor to the Los Angeles Times, The Art Newspaper, and other print and online publications.  In the past she has been a writer and editor at Time-Life Books in Alexandra, VA, managing editor of Asian Art News magazine in Hong Kong, and film festival programmer.  For the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.,she programmed "China's New Cinema," their first Chinese film series.  During her five years in Hong Kong, she often went on set and interviewed directors, cinematographers, and actors in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.  She has been a judge for San Francisco International Film Festival, authored several art/exhibition monographs and catalogs, and organized talks and seminars for Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pyo Gallery, Cella Art + Architecture, Koplin del Rio Gallery, and others.
