Interaction Design

The Interaction Design Department is seeking practicing interaction designer (s) for faculty positions in both our BS Interaction Design (IxD) and new graduate MDes degree programs. Depending on candidate location these part-time positions may be remote or in-person.
Candidates should demonstrate expertise in contemporary UX/Interaction Design approaches, a strong professional or research-centered portfolio, and a commitment to ethical and inclusive design practices. Must be familiar with current practices and critical issues relating to interaction design, emerging technology, physical computing and qualitative methods in user research. Fluency in one or more of the following specializations is required:
UX/IxD methodology, Qualitative User Research and UX strategy, Visual Interface Design, Mixed fidelity rapid prototyping, software design, physical computing, AI/ML, AR + VR.
Faculty teach studio courses in interaction, participate in curriculum development, advise students and to engage in Department development. A successful candidate will seek collaborations with other departments, programs, and schools.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard classroom setting with frequent interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is regular exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust and noise.
Physical: Employees stand or sit most of the time, but may be mobile for brief periods of time. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 20 pounds); to operate modern office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading class materials, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction.
Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.
