Tyrone James Drake is a graphic design professional and design educator based in Los Angeles. A member of ArtCenter’s Graphic Design faculty, Drake was creative director for the University of Southern California School of Architecture and the A&D (Architecture & Design) Museum, Los Angeles. He has collaborated on branding and visual communications projects in architecture, music, fashion, film, sports, health and beauty, and luxury hospitality, with clients such as Disney Consumer Products, the Los Angeles Clippers, Twentieth Century Fox and KCRW in Los Angeles. He grew up in the tough and often turbulent neighborhood of West Oakland, California, home of the Black Panther Party. Highly influenced by its artistically rich music and passionate political culture, his design narrative draws upon the early and continuing influences of jazz musician Miles Davis and is reflected in the seamless, lyrical relationship that he achieves between text, image and space.
