A state of emergency was declared after some twenty thousand tons of diesel oil leaked into a river in Siberia within the Arctic Circle. The spillage occurred when a fuel tank at a power plant near Norilsk, operated by a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel, collapsed. The leaked oil drifted around 12 kilometers (7 miles) from the accident site. The diesel oil is visible in the Ambarnaya River, easily identifiable in crimson red. The Ambarnaya River flows into Lake Pyasino, a major body of water and the source of the Pyasina River, which ultimately flows into the Arctic Ocean. June 1, 2020.
