Western Pakistan is an important wetland area and part of the Indus River Delta. This delta extends 150 kilometers (93 miles) along the coast. The Indus River, on the right, is one of the longest in the world, flowing around 3,000 kilometers (1,860 miles) before emptying into the Arabian Sea. The Indus Delta has the seventh-largest mangrove forest in the world. Because of major irrigation works and dams on the river, however, as well as low rainfall, the local community has been affected significantly. A huge proportion of the delta has been lost, and the survival of the delta freshwater species, including the Indus river dolphin, is at risk. April 14, 2018.
