“My 2006 image of a wave called ‘The Next Wave’ grew into the pipeline wave for Billabong, for their 2009 Pipeline Masters campaign. It went worldwide, very much like the Cream poster. My 2015 ‘Great Wave’ mural in Hermosa Beach, afterwards, is all about the evolution of surfboards and surfing. It had to have a narrative, and include people in it. It took about a month to do. I had to draw it all out first, and then I brought it into the computer, and then made all these judgments on how to collage it together. It was printed digitally on vinyl, with an adhesive back. It took about two days to print out, in 17 strips. Each mural has a story.”
