Joe Tan’s passion for design stems from his parents’ openness and confidence, his holistic Waldorf School education and the fearless design spirit at ArtCenter. Graduating with honors in Product Design in 1994, Tan joined IDEO to design, under Tim Brown and alongside Naoto Fukasawa, for Apple, NEC, Logitech and Nike. In 1996, he co-founded One & Co. with Catherine Bailey. Together, they designed products for Burton, Fila, Nixon, Nike and Intel. Tan launched Incase in 1997 with ArtCenter classmate Bobby Chang, where they, with friends, designed and built the company’s brand, products, culture and design ethos. In 2012, Tan co-founded Moreless with long-time collaborator Markus Diebel, designing products and experiences for Soma, Google, Intel and Fitbit. They joined Apple’s industrial design team in 2015 under Jony Ive. Tan lives in San Francisco and is married to Brazilian architect Valeria Cardoso. Together they obsess about design while raising their two boys.
