Dick Cole has worked as an art director, graphic designer and illustrator in New York and San Francisco. For a decade, in the 1960s, he partnered with Primo Angeli in a graphic studio in Palo Alto, California. His clients include Chevron, American Express, General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, Apple and Van Heusen. He has received awards from the Art Directors Club and the Society of Illustrators in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. He taught graphic design and illustration at San Jose State University and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In his later career as a watercolorist, Cole served as president of the National Watercolor Society in 2008. His watercolor awards include the 2000 California Watercolor Association National Exhibition gold medal, the 2004 NWS/PWS Best in Show and the 2011 Best in Show from Watercolor West. He is represented in galleries in California, Pennsylvania and Texas.
