Pearlyn Lii was born in Hong Kong as a British National Overseas citizen—sadly, she has no British accent. Since the age of 9, Lii knew she wanted to be a designer. She remembers staring intensely at a family-shared Windows ’95 computer in a narrow Hong Kong apartment, doodling in Microsoft Paint. Throughout her career, she has met mentors through interning and working at SYPartners, Wolff Olins, "Whitewall" magazine, and Guess?, Inc., who inspired her to spearhead initiatives such as TEDxACCD 2015 and the ArtCenter Business Club. As a visual experience designer currently working at Local Projects in New York, Lii believes in a future where the digital space and the physical world interplay seamlessly—wayfinding devices worn on shoulders; smart rooms that detect the collective mood of those inside it; oscillating walls that breathe fresh air into buildings; and basically anything beyond the screen.
