BS 05 Environmental Design

Scott Franklin co-founded NONdesigns with his wife, Miao Miao, in 2006. The Pasadena-based design studio builds branded environments and everything within them. Franklin and Miao share the roles of principal and designer, bringing to life retail, event, exhibition, living and working spaces. After exercising a broad range of design disciplines and fine-tuning their combined voice, they created products that include the NON Box modular design system (reconfigurable frames, floors, ceilings and walls); the NON Linear lighting modules (LED luminaires that connect in endless possibilities of lighting environments); and the NON Common desk, a large surface with a playful approach to organization and divided workstations through modular array slots creating movable bookends, folders and dividers. Franklin’s background includes exhibition, furniture, product, branding, interactive design and fabrication. At ArtCenter, Franklin teaches design studios and workshops, and Miao teaches environmental design, branding and lighting design.
