BS 61 Environmental Design

Inspired by Charles and Ray Eames, with whom he interned, Bruce Burdick sought a multidisciplinary career, which included direction of ArtCenter’s Environmental Design Department. He worked with Herb Rosenthal and John Follis and then founded The Burdick Group, focusing on innovative furniture design, exhibitions, installations, showrooms and stores for clients worldwide. Projects include groundbreaking furniture for Herman Miller, furniture for Itoki (Japan) and Casas (Spain), exhibits and interiors for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the garden of Samsung Electronics (Seoul), the Philips Competence Centre (Netherlands), Esprit de Corp retail environments, and the Crayola Café and retail store at the Hallmark Crown Center (Missouri). Early exhibits pioneered the use of interactive computers by visitors. His work has been published widely and received numerous honors, including awards from I.D., Industrial Designers Society of America, AIGA and "Time." In 2012, Burdick received ArtCenter’s Lifetime Achievement Alumni Award.
