Before he knew he wanted to be an artist, Mauricio Abril obtained a degree in molecular, cell and developmental biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. After deciding that research was not his true calling, he enrolled in ArtCenter’s Illustration program, where he graduated with his second BS. Since then, Abril has combined his creative and analytical talents as an art director/concept artist for various entertainment companies, including The Walt Disney Company, Hasbro and Ubisoft. As an art director with BRC Imagination Arts, he has overseen theme park design throughout the world, in such places as Singapore, Dubai, the Netherlands and Washington, D.C. He also began teaching classes in art soon after graduating and is a design instructor with the online school CG Masters Academy. His personal projects include his own author/illustrator projects, which include children’s picture books, comic book-based films and other writing endeavors.
