Rick Boyko is a founding member of Sparkstarters, an executive creative-collaboration training program composed of entrepreneurs, marketers, advertising leaders, startup founders, designers and anthropologists. In 2012, after 10 years, Boyko stepped down as director and professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University Brandcenter, where the curriculum had grown to five tracks and doubled under his leadership. Part of the VCU School of Business, this master’s program has been recognized by “Creativity,” the American Association of Advertising Agencies, “Advertising Age” and “BusinessWeek” as a top program in its field. Boyko helmed Ogilvy & Mather North America as co-president and chief creative officer when the firm was named agency of the year by “Advertising Age” in 2000. Boyko was inducted into the American Advertising Federation’s Advertising Hall of Fame in 2012.
