Biography

Born in Los Angeles, Richard Mahon studied illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He was an award winning Illustrator from 1977 until 1998 before transitioning to Visual Effects for film and TV. He has worked on approximately 85 movies and TV shows as an Art Director, Matte Painting Supervisor, concept artist and matte painter. Rich was part of the Oscar-winning VFX teams on Lord of the Rings, Golden Compass and Life of Pi (matte painting supervisor). Other films include the Matrix trilogy, Sin City 2, three Fast and Furious titles, The Mummy and The Kingdom, among others. Award winning TV shows include Foundation, The X Files, Game of Thrones, The Man in the High Castle, etc. Rich currently lives in Canada and has been a professor at Art Center College of Design since January 2021
