a clubhouse is an interactive space which encapsulates the viewer in a structure of crocheted fabric. The structure's crocheted walls integrate a variety of color texture and pattern to produce an effect which is reminiscent of the Nicaraguan- Iranian environment in which the artist was brought up. The fabric used in the work comprises repurposed materials, particularly small leftover scraps which come together to produce the life size work which stands 5' tall. the construction of the work represents a lengthy and reflective hand-made process. The result is a physical object in the three-dimension world- a system of hand made walls that clearly delineates an inside and an outside experience of the work. With walls that take on unpredictable, organic and abstract forms, the work allows for multiple perspectives and interpretations. The experience of the space is subject to the projections of the occupant as well as to their particular position in relation to the space. The artist observes strong associations between the work itself and her memories of creating it. As she shares the work to a larger audience, she continues to observe the meanings made by new occupants of the space.
