Southern California's Spike and Mike created a one-of-a-kind animation festival that helped launch the careers of Will Vinton, Bill Plympton, John Lasseter, and Mike Judge, to name just a few, and paved the way for Adult Swim. Their Sick and Twisted Festival was known as much for the radically experimental breakthrough animation it presented as it was for the outrageous antics of the founders, who threw away the cartoon rulebook and wrote their own.

And now we have Animation Outlaws, a beautifully crafted new documentary that tells Spike and Mike’s incredible story through the voices of the legendary directors that they impacted, including Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas), Pete Docter (Up, Monsters Inc.), Nick Park (Wallace and Gromit), Peter Lord (Chicken Run), Everett Peck (Duckman), Bruno Bozzetto (Allegro Non Troppo), Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo), as well as many others. Even "Weird Al" Yankovic shows up in this doc to be a part of the fun.

Kat Alioshin, Animation Outlaws producer/director, is an industry veteran who started off in stop-motion back in the 1980s. She's worked with Tim Burton and Henry Selick on The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Coraline, James And The Giant Peach, and Monkeybone. She'll appear on stage for audience questions after the screening, so be sure to attend. And bring your friends.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

Presented by Michael Dooley’s “Design History of Comics & Animation” Event Series.
