The final design of Art Center’s campus reflects many of Kubly’s ideas about what the College should be. He envisioned a factory that would be beautiful and easy to maintain, possess architectural integrity, and be an ideal foil for the College’s professional training.
The concept then was that students would attend day classes much like a typical business day and go home to do their work. The focus was on course work, not extracurricular activities, with few places for meetings and community gatherings. The building officially broke ground in November 1974 and opened in January 1976. These photographs document the construction process.
